Saturday, November 24
Edmonds, WA - The time-honored holiday tradition of the Edmonds Tree Lighting Ceremony has been expanded this year. On Saturday, November 24, in addition to the illumination of the community Christmas tree, the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce has added a festive holiday stroll through the streets of charming downtown. The Christmas Stroll will begin at 3 pm in front of the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, located in City Hall at 121 Fifth Avenue North.
After the Christmas Stroll, the City of Edmonds invites you to join them at the Fountain at Main Street and Fifth Avenue at 4:30 pm for a glimpse at the newly renovated block of Main Street between 5th and 6th Streets. Then walk to Centennial Plaza (5th Avenue North and Bell Street) for the much anticipated Tree Lighting Ceremony.
At the Tree Lighting, enjoy refreshments provided by main sponsor Shooby Do Catering, Waterfront Coffee, the Chamber and Starbucks. Entertainment includes the 20 piece Maplewood Middle School Jazz Band, North Sound Church choirs and a vocal performance by local artist, Bear. The grand finale will be Santa arriving by fire truck for the lighting of the tree. Following the tree lighting, join Santa on a walk to the Edmonds Conference Center for hot chocolate, cookies, fun and photos with Santa Claus (photos taken by Magic Photo).
For those who want a full day of holiday fun, purchase tickets to the Edmonds Center for the Arts annual Sing-a-long Sound of Music event (edmondscenterforthearts.org). From noon to 4:15 pm on Saturday, November 24, the whole family can watch the original 1965 movie in glorious Technicolor, with on- screen lyrics for all the songs. When the movie is over, all attendees are invited to head out the door into downtown Edmonds just in time for the tree lighting, which begins shortly after the sing-a-long.
The Tree Lighting is a free community event open to the public. Parking is available to tree lighting attendees and shoppers after 4 pm at the Edmonds Center for the Arts.
